What is evergreen content?

Evergreen content has been defined as content that remains relevant long after its publication date. Why evergreen? It takes its name from the evergreen tree because they retain its leaves throughout the seasons. Most of the content that is published is relevant for a short period of time and while it may gain significant attention, the interest in the article dwindles pretty quickly. In contrast, evergreen content tends to be read and shared consistently over time.

Content that remains relevant over time tends to include formats such as:

Educational or informational publications, for example, What is content marketing?

How-to posts, e.g. How to Speak So People Want to Listen

Research or statistical benchmark positions, for example, Millennials overtake Baby Boomers as America’s largest generation.

They are publications that answer questions, for example, frequently asked questions about genetically modified foods.

We can also create lists and resources, for example, the latest list of marketing statistics. This particular list isn’t technically evergreen, as it’s updated every year, but it works well as an ongoing resource.

There are also themes that remain evergreen and relevant over time. These include:

  • Love
  • Long life
  • Health
  • Breeding
  • Professional orientation

While these formats and themes lend themselves to being evergreen, the quality of the content is what drives traffic.

What are the benefits of evergreen content?

Evergreen posts stand out in your Google analytics or site traffic stats. They are the posts that consistently drive traffic to your site month after month. These posts are highly beneficial to your SEO strategy as they not only drive traffic but also consistently gain links over time. Therefore, evergreen content is an important element within your overall content strategy.

How to find good examples of evergreen content:

We’ve recently come up with a filter that allows you to search for good examples of evergreen content in any subject area or on any domain (Evergreen ).

We looked for articles that consistently had shares and links over time. Based on this idea, we assign each article a permanent score. In simple terms, the higher the score, the more evergreen the article. If an article is less than 40 days old, we rate it zero by default.

This approach isn’t perfect, but it does provide another perspective when searching for effective content examples. So instead of sorting by total shares or links, the evergreen filter shows top posts that consistently gain shares and links over time.

Search for evergreen content by topic:

Simply enter the topic you want to search for and filter by evergreen score as shown below.perennial

You can also search for evergreen content on a particular website by entering the domain you want to search for instead of a topic. (Thewindrecords )
